This is me: Katharina Alber

“Thanks to my grandpa, I found my love for music and the piano as a child.”

Even as a small child, Katharina was fascinated by music. Her grandfather, a passionate musician himself, laid the foundation for her musical journey. The path led through music school and classical lessons to her encounter with the legendary Artur Rogger – and thus to her great love: Boogie Woogie and Blues.

Music made for the piano

Boogie Woogie is a musical style that emerged in the late 19th century in the African-American communities of the American South. Born as a piano style, it is characterised by its unmistakable, driving bass pattern in the left hand, while the right hand improvises and plays rhythmic figures.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Boogie Woogie experienced its heyday. Pianists such as Meade Lux Lewis, Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson made the style world-famous. The music was closely related to the Blues and quickly became the soundtrack of an entire generation.

Boogie Woogie significantly influenced the development of Rock 'n' Roll, Rhythm and Blues and Jazz. Its driving, infectious rhythm has lost none of its fascination to this day and delights audiences all over the world.
