It was in June 2021 when Chris and I set off for Vienna. Our goal: a concert by the Mojo Blues Band. In a time when the pandemic had reduced the world of live music to a minimum, every concert opportunity felt like a small miracle. And this concert was going to be something very special.

For every blues and boogie lover, the Mojo Blues Band is more than just a name. They are the embodiment of true Chicago blues – music that goes not just through the heart, but directly through the soul. Their music is a blend of raw energy and deep emotion that you simply have to experience live.
From Café to Spotlight: The Fascinating Story of My Blues Stage Debut
Before the concert, we sat in a cosy café at the venue, watching the hustle and bustle. Quite by chance, the guys from the band were sitting at the next table. I was engrossed in a conversation when suddenly the unexpected question came: “Are you Kathi?” Being recognised among all the concertgoers was an unexpected honour.
When the concert began, I was immediately captivated by the band’s sound and energy. Their performance was breathtaking – a perfect harmony of talent and passion. During the break, I seized the opportunity to get a CD and have it signed by all the band members. But then came the moment that made the evening unforgettable: Erik Trauner, the head of the band, asked me if I would like to play something.
Playing with the Mojo Blues Band, whom I admired so much, was a long-held dream. I replied, “I would love to play, but only if it fits and I can perform with the whole band.” Erik smiled and said, “No problem, we’ll do that.”
Standing on stage, alongside these great musicians, was a thrill and at the same time an incredible joy. I played two songs with them and felt as if I was floating. The energy on stage, the audience’s response – it was fantastic.
After the concert, I thanked the band and invited them to my annual Boogie Festival in Tyrol for the year 2022.
From admiring fan to fellow performer on stage with my idols. That’s the beauty of music: it opens doors, creates unexpected connections, and fulfils dreams.
