Vienna, the city of music, and here I am in the midst of it. During my visit in 2017, there was one essential stop that no music lover should miss: Jazzland. This club is not just a venue; it is an institution for true jazz and blues fans.
The meeting of legends: Martin Pyrker and Lluis Coloma at Jazzland
On that special evening, Martin Pyrker and Lluis Coloma came together at Jazzland. Martin, a true legend in Austria’s boogie-woogie and blues scene, and Lluis, whom I had already met at a festival in France, were the stars of the night. When Lluis introduced me to Martin and mentioned that I play the piano, I never expected what would happen next.
The invitation to the stage: A dream comes true
Martin invited me to play a few pieces. In that moment, I felt both honoured and excited. Standing on the stage of Jazzland, where so many greats had performed, was a bit like a dream. I gave it my all, and the audience’s reaction was incredible. At Jazzland, you encounter a true connoisseur audience – people who appreciate every nuance of the music and have a deep understanding of boogie-woogie and blues.
The highlight of the evening was when Martin invited me to his Boogie Festival in Wels. I was overjoyed at this opportunity. It was not only a great compliment but also a chance to prove myself on a larger stage.
Unexpected and exciting paths
That evening at Jazzland showed me how unpredictable and exciting life as a musician can be, and that you never know what surprises await around the next corner, especially when you’re in a city full of musical history like Vienna.
I am grateful for the experiences of that evening and for the openness and warmth shown to me by both Martin and the audience. It was a confirmation that music truly connects and opens doors.
